The Town of Coxsackie Zoning Board of Appeals will conduct a special meeting for the purpose of acknowledging receipt of the Use and Area Variance Application of Freepoint Power LLC for a proposed 5mW community distributed solar energy generating facility located at NYS Route 9W, Coxsackie tax map No. 70.00-4-10. The meeting will take place on June 25 at 7:00 pm at Town Hall, 56 Bailey Street, Coxsackie, NY. At that time the Zoning Board will schedule a public hearing on this matter. Cypress Creek Renewables, a nationwide solar company pursuing property in Cairo, Greenville and CoxsackieConditions for the project’s special use permit included a deed restriction requiring the company to leave 40 acres of the 61-acre property undeveloped. Because it was illegal for the planning board to create this condition, the special-use permit must be amended and another public hearing will be held Feb. 26.

The 2019 Farming Our Future Conference theme, “Enhancing Agricultural Literacy in the Community,” will address the importance of knowing where our food comes from, emphasize sustainability, best management practices, community engagement, land use and farming techniques. While Columbia County, Greene County and the Mid-Hudson Valley have a rich farming heritage, it is incumbent upon all of us to do what we can to preserve and strengthen our agricultural landscape so it’s here for generations to come.
Jessica Ziehm, Executive Director of the New York Agriculture Animal Coalition, is the keynote speaker. Attendees will be able to attend a concurrent workshop session, visit with a variety of agriculture-related vendors and network with other participants. The conference is designed to attract a diverse audience from the community including established farmers, beginning farmers, interested non-farmers, suppliers, educators, community officials, industry leaders, and students. A nominal registration fee will cover the cost of providing breakfast, lunch and refreshments.

All interested parties will have the opportunity to be heard. Written comments can be submitted to the above address. A copy of the proposed local law is available for review at the Town Clerk’s Office.
Hudson Energy Development proposes a 100MW facility sited on 1,800 acres of farm land located in Coxsackie and Athens.
Flint Mine Solar plans to file its Preliminary Scoping Statement (“PSS”) on or around November 2, 2018. More information, including the PSS document, will be made available on the Siting Board’s website (http://dps.ny.gov) under Case 18-F-0087.
